Hospital Compliance with Illinois Law

Since January 1, 2016, Illinois law has mandated that emergency rooms and urgent care centers post a notice informing the public and specifically, victims of human trafficking, of hotline numbers where they can report unlawful activity or seek help.

Illinois law 775 ILCS 50, known as the Human Trafficking Resource Center Notice Act,  requires that notices must be posted in a conspicuous place near the public entrance or in clear view of the public and employees where similar notices are customarily posted. Download this notice in a variety of languages from the ILDHS website here.

Survivors of sex and labor trafficking come into contact with a variety of healthcare settings more frequently than professionals think, but they are rarely identified. This factsheet created by the Cook County Human Trafficking Task Force describes the intersection of human trafficking and the healthcare field. Download it here.
